I paint watercolour portraits of plants, usually life-sized and as botanically accurate as possible. I took the Certificate Course in Botanical Illustration at Sheffield University and continue to attend some local classes.
I have always wanted to paint plants botanically, and luckily had the chance on early retirement from biology teaching.
I paint in watercolour using small brushes (size 6 – 0000) and 140 lb hot-pressed paper. I took the Certificate Course in Botanical Illustration at Sheffield University and continue to attend local classes and residential courses, including art in gardens on the Riviera, and in Sri Lanka. I have shown pictures at the Society of Botanical Artists annual London shows (as a non-member), and at the Royal Horticultural Society’s winter shows, gaining silver medals.
I was the founder Secretary of the Northern Society for Botanical Art, and am a Fellow of the Harlequin Society associated with Sheffield Botanical Gardens.
Currently, I am painting a series of pictures of carnivorous plants.
