I use images drawn from Sheffield, the Peak District and further afield. My paintings are semi-abstract representations of places I know well. I try to capture the spirit of natural forms using fluid lines and blocks of colour. Influences are many and varied but include 20th century landscape painters combined with African textile design and contemporary stained glass.

I am working as an artist part-time, dividing my time between painting and working on short-term assignments in Africa. Originally trained as a biologist, I am based in Walkley, Sheffield and exhibit regularly with Walkey Edge, a group of artists based in the local area.

I draw inspiration from natural forms and these are used as the basis for semi abstraction. I am particularly interested in the patterns that occur in the natural world –patterns in the heather on the high moors, in groups of trees silhouetted against the sky, or in leaves as they fall in autumn. I try to capture the spirit of natural forms using fluid lines and blocks of colour to replicate the patterns that occur in nature.

Having travelled widely, influences are many and varied but include 20th century landscape painters from Scotland and England, African textile design and contemporary stained glass.

STUDIO: The studio is an original Sheffield “garden house” and is one of the few remaining in Sheffield. Garden houses were built as small, temporary dwellings before their owners built their more permanent home (with support from the then self-help Land Society).

On show will be Cath Dunn’s most recent paintings, prints and drawings as well as samples of older work. Recent work and cards for sale.
