Stylish hats and other items designed and hand-made in felt, together with landscape paintings in various media.
Colour and shape are important in all my creative work, whether it is a painting or textiles.
My landscape paintings are mostly done in the Yorkshire Dales, Paris and the south of France. Whilst my first love is watercolour, I also use pastel, acrylic and mixed-media/collage.
I increasingly find that working in felt, which comes in a subtle palette of colour and different textures and has sculptural 3-D potential, provides a new dimension to my work. I use felted wool fibres, often mingled with silks, to create vessels and landscapes, reminiscent of the Dales, as well as colourful “wearables”. These include my stylish “La Cloche” hats, as well as decorative corsages, scarves and slippers. This aspect of my work has also led to a wider interest in textiles, and in particular the history of hat-making and 1920’s fashions.
