I create innovative textile art using techniques such as soldering, needle punching, and digital imaging. My pieces are finally embellished with machine or hand embroidery.

History is usually the starting point for my research – the architecture and artefacts get me sketching or photographing. I review my observational drawings, sketches and experiments looking for patterns and shapes which I manipulate digitally. I am constantly searching my designs for images that will work as backgrounds or can be incorporated within my textile pieces.

The chosen designs are important as they are instrumental in determining the colours and direction the lines take as I machine stitch, cut, burn back and build up pattern, before finally enhancing them with hand stitching. At this point the historical starting point has almost disappeared, taken over by the creation of complementary patterns alongside each other.

STUDIO: A light attractive attic studio displaying contemporary textile wall art and needle punched artefacts. There will be demonstrations of soldering and embellishing.
