I design and make work in textiles involving a variety of processes and resulting in a range of products from wall hung pieces to accessories and costume for performance.
I trained in Embroidery at Loughborough College of Art and Design and have now followed a textile career for over 35 years. I trained to teach Art and Design at the Leicester School of Art Education and have always divided my time between teaching of some sort and producing work for sale and exhibition.
My work is often inspired by landscape or seascape but can also be directed by a theme when I am working towards a particular exhibition or production.
My main discipline remains embroidery but within this wide subject I concentrate on machine embroidery. Often I will paint my own fabrics to stitch into.
Products range from wall hung pieces, some realistic and others developed towards abstract, to accessories and costume for performance.
I opened ‘Stitched Up and Fleeced’ Studio in 2005 as a space where I could produce my textile work and also teach workshops.
STUDIO: Large Victorian studio with lots of natural light, display of work and demonstration of various textile processes.
